Kevin Painter In Trouble Again

Kevin Painter was back in the news again at the P.D.C. Amsterdam Open for all the wrong reasons. He is no stranger to controversy and his T.V. walk-on music “I Predict a Riot,” by the Kaiser Chiefs, seems most apt after the altercation he had with fellow player Adrian Lewis in Holland. The row was reminiscent of the argument he had with Phil Taylor at the World Championship in 2005 where the pair exchanged heated words both on stage and backstage afterwards before they left The Circus Tavern without commenting.

Last Saturday Kevin was due to play Adrian Lewis in the quarter final of the Amsterdam Open when the row broke out on stage. Apparently both players squared up to each other and although no actual blows were exchanged, World number 15 Kevin Painter was removed from the stage by security staff. According to an official there were a lot of verbals and there was nothing more to it really, but unfortunately both players were disqualified from the competition. This could mean a ban from other events for a few months as the P.D.C. is coming down hard on such behaviour. Not so long ago Jason Clark and Andy Jenkins were banned by the P.D.C. for a year after getting into trouble.

Even a short ban for Painter and Lewis could have serious implications for them as they might miss a some of the years most prestigious tournaments, namely the US Open next month and in June, the UK Open and the Desert Open in Las Vegas.

The disqualification was good news for Colin Osbourne though, as he had been due to play the winner of Painter and Lewis so he was given a BYE through to the final where he lost to Raymond van Barneveld.
