A Guest Appearance?/The Match That Never Was!

According to the result sheet that was handed in for my team this week there was a rare guest appearance from P Taylor who lived up to previous legendary performances with one leg of 301 over in 6 darts consisting of a 160 start and a 141 finish. A second leg had a 160 finish and the doubles legs had a couple of 180 scores. I have seen P Taylor play before and she is not normally that good, but as the away team did not turn up Pat Taylor (Wife of Geof Taylor) decided to give herself a game and fill in the sheet!

When I entered up the 7 nil win/results on the team records page and then sorted the players singles wins page that is automatically updated from the team records I got a surprise. Pat Taylor had only played one singles game that she lost two nil, but with the two nil win from the BYE on that Monday she was listed 104 in the player rankings out of over 150 players registered. In other words, without winning a single leg, she was two thirds of the way down, or one third of the way up the singles rankings table with 50 players beneath her! It was a point that surprised me.

Getting away from the match a little, but still on the subject of odd happenings in players tables, another instance happened with Geof Taylor when he had not been to two matches and he actually went up one position in the doubles rankings on the update. Geof actually moved up from number 5 to number 4 because another player had recorded his first loss and thereby moved down with the same number of wins and legs for, but more losses!

Another weird one in the players listing occurred once when I left a BYE in the players listing, (The only one that season) and the BYE was halfway up the players rankings in both the singles and doubles, as it had less losses to its name than half the real players!

Anyway back to the match that never was and as there was no match we had a friendly knock out amongst ourselves, but after a few legs had been played and time was passing the barmaid appeared from the kitchen area and cheerfully asked, “When do you want the sandwiches?”

My quick reply was, “The week after next when we are at home again and have got a match here.” She ignored me as most people do and brought the sandwiches out anyway which we felt obliged to eat. Having the food to ourselves did not really cheer us up at missing our weekly match and our Monday evening darts night was cut short
