"The Golden Girl"
The autobiography of the World's Greatest Ladies Darts Player.

Trina Gulliver 'Golden Girl' - The Autobiography of the Worlds Greatest Ever Ladie' Dart Player Patrick Chaplin who helped three-times World Champion John Lowe write his autobiography, “Old Stoneface,” approached Trina with the idea of writing her life story. Work began in September 2005 and the book is now complete. It is being published by John Blake Publishing of London in January 2008 to coincide with the defence of Trina’s unbeaten record of seven times Women’s World Professional Darts Champion at Lakeside.

Over 12 hours of interviews were carried out along with many discussions. It is the first ever book published with a woman darts player as its subject.

The book chronicles Trina’s early life with difficult school years and family life, where the only thing she excelled at was sport. A teenage relationship with rugby playing Paul “Gully” Gulliver led to a marriage that lasted until 2005.

Trina’s darts career started early but it was not until the 1986-1987 darts season when she was accepted for membership on a men’s Superleague team in the Warwickshire Men’s League, and won her first four matches that she really knew she was going to become a star.

In the early part of her blossoming career Trina struggled financially realising that she had to compete in as many competitions as possible to gain ranking points

Sponsors, she found, were not interested in Lady darts player as the advertising gains from such deals were non-existent until a casual conversation at a darts-related function led to an  offer by Graham Reeves of Reeves Boatbuilders to cover Gulliver’s expenses for the Swiss Open in 1997.  Within a year of the financial pressure being lifted she was firmly installed as the number one lady darts player in the world.  Although Reeves Boat builders is still one of Gulliver’s key sponsors Trina found others became more interested as her success grew. In 1998 the WINMAU Dartboard Company came calling and this partnership continues as strong as ever.

“The Golden Girl” not only recounts many darts matches, but also tells of the constant battle Trina fought to gain recognition in a sport that is still in the dark ages with regard to equality for women. The book tells of Trina’s successes and also reveals her innermost thoughts and feelings along with some entertaining anecdotes that will, if another review is to be believed, amuse some of the typical male darts players that are likely to read it!
