Ashfaque Sayed

Asfaque was born on the 17th Oct 1964 in the city of Pune, in the state of Maharashtra in India. He is a Graduate in management studies and his profession is in the Bio Medical Engineering Business. Ayesha Sayed is his wife and currently India's no 2 Women’s Player. He has two children, one of whom is also a very keen and proficient darts player, his daughter Nausheen, the current Youth Girls National Champion, and Izhaan, who is a cricket buff. Ashfaque’s interests include Darts, (of course), Cricket, Soccer, Socializing, Reading and Healthcare.

Although Ashfaque has only been playing for a few years he has rapidly came to dominate darts in India and has represented his state in the National events and either won or come runner up in the singles and doubles events since he started playing darts.  He has also represented India in the World Cup 2005 (Australia), the Singapore Open, the Asia Pacific Cup, the Malaysian Open and became the first ever Indian darts player to represent his country in a World Darts Championship on Thursday 20th December at the Alexandra Palace, London.

Ashfaque was the tournaments 7500-1 outsider and drawn to play against the Chinese qualifier, Shi Yongsheng. Ashfaque and Shi played the opening match of the afternoon session before an enthusiastic crowd. The winner was the first to five legs and Shi, who had played in the competition the previous year, had the more confident game. Ashfaque lost 5 – 0 to the Chinese player in what was for him a very disappointing match.  He knew that he had not played as well as he could and had missed a couple of chances at a finish that might easily have changed the score-line. Ashfaque told a reporter that, “In the past I have played so much better against better opposition, but today I just did not hit the doubles. It was as simple as that.”

The day before the competition Ashfaque gained a sponsorship deal with UK-based WINMAU Dartboard Company who obviously believe he has further to go in the world of darts.

His ambition is to win India a medal in 2012 at London Olympics where darts is rumoured to be included in the Olympics for the first time. It has to be seen if Ashfaque will reach the heights of his favourite player Phil Taylor. To see Ashfaque's web-site Click Here.
