Adrian “Jackpot” Lewis Adrian’s home town is Stoke so it was
inevitable that he would meet the legendary Phil Taylor which he did at a
charity event. Just As Bristow took a young Phil Taylor and coached him many
years ago, Phil be-friended Adrian teaching him many of his skills which gave
him a superb basis to build on. The pair put in many hours practice together and
with the calming influence of his darts playing parents, Steve and Yvonne, Lewis
is rapidly becoming well known on the circuit. Adrian was born on the 21st
January 1985 and as such is one of the youngest Professional players on the
circuit. His rise to success has been meteoritic. In 2002 he won the British
Teenage Championship and he has never looked back since. The nickname “Jackpot” came from an
unfortunate event when he was at the Las Vegas Desert Classic in 2005. Adrian
hit the “Jackpot” on a fruit machine winning over £40,000 but could not
claim it because he did not know that to play a gaming machine in America you
have to over 21 and as he was only 20 he was legally underage. Adrian has entered many important
competitions in his short career, but perhaps one of the most memorable events
for him must have been the World Matchplay Championship at Blackpool in 2005
where he reached the Quarter Finals and Unicorn signed him up for a 3 year
contract. He has made the sporting headlines several
times and did so again in 2006 after playing Peter Manley in the Quarter Final
of the World Championship where angry words were exchanged in a controversial
match. At still only 23 years of age he has a list of impressive performances under his belt including reaching the Quarter Final of the PDC World Championship in 2006 and 2008, the World Matchplay Semi Final in 2007, the World Grand Prix Semi Final in 2007 and the Las Vegas quarter Final in 2007. Perhaps more impressive is the amount of prize money that he has managed to win in his short career. The total so far is £188,904 so perhaps the nickname “Jackpot” is very apt.
